This dramatic monologue imagines a back story to one of the incidents in Christ's crucifixion, the story of Simon of Cyrene, who was forced to carry Christ's cross. Consumed by his own guilt, Simon misunderstands the events around him, thinking that the cross that is abruptly thrust on his back is meant for him. Finally at the top of Golgotha the deeper meaning of Christ’s substitutionary sacrifice begins to shine forth.
