A man who is estranged from his prodigal son is asked to play a wise man in a live Nativity scene. He selects an old bottle of aftershave as his "frankincense" not realizing it is a gift he gave his son years ago for Christmas. As the memories flood back this wise man suddenly faces an unexpected crisis in laying this gift at the manger. It is a choice between clenched fists and open hands. Can he let go? Will he receive a gift in return?
This Christmas play kit runs 22 minutes in 4 scenes plus an optional epilogue. Add choir songs, special music, or recitations before and after the scenes and you have a complete Christmas program.
With humor and warmth, With Open Hands is a modern parable of the prodigal son's father that will challenge Christians and reach out to non-Christians.
This play includes the You, Too, Are Magi monologue as the play's optional epilogue
